The Compton Engineering History

Beginning in 1973, Compton Engineering was founded with an assurance to bring quality engineering to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Before Lloyd J. Compton began operations of the present company, which was established in Pascagoula, Mississippi, he was a partner in the consulting firm of Gautier and Compton. In 1980, Compton Engineering later became a partnership between Lloyd J. Compton, P.E. and his son L. David Compton, P.E., after moving from Port Arthur, Texas to assist his father in running the family business. David Compton currently leads the Compton Engineering team with the same basic principles of honesty and integrity that his father used when he started the company.


Compton Engineering, Inc. initially concentrated on civil engineering type projects, including the design of utility type projects for both public and private clients. In the years following, Compton Engineering’s client base and client needs continued to grow, and as such, so did the firm. In 1993, Compton Engineering expanded its office locations to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi to better serve the needs of our clients in the southwest region of the State. In 1999, Compton Engineering expanded once more and the Biloxi, Mississippi office was opened. Compton has most recently added a governmental affairs office in Jackson, Mississippi to assist our clients at the state level, including the assistance in securing funds for state and federal projects.

Over the years, our firm has developed into a diversified firm with over 55 local employees offering expertise in various disciplines of professional services including civil, structural, environmental, planning, modeling, estimating, scheduling, surveying, project management, construction management, energy management, and administrative services. Compton Engineering’s past success is attributed to dedicated service to our clients, our community, and our employees. We have always and will continue to put our local clients first, no matter the type, size, or complexity of a project. We have a proven track record in a wide array of projects from very small to extremely large. We take pride in treating every client and project with the highest level of professionalism possible.

Thirty-eight years after opening an office in Jackson County, Compton Engineering is now the largest engineering firm on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the 5th largest in the State of Mississippi as recognized by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Mississippi.
